What You'll Need:

• A bundle of California white sage
• A fireproof container (e.g., an abalone shell, clay bowl, or ceramic dish)
• A lighter or match
• Optional: Feather or hand to fan the smoke

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Set an Intention:

Before you begin, take a moment to set a clear intention for why you're using the sage. For example: "I cleanse this space of negative energy." OR "I invite clarity and positive energy into this environment." Ground yourself by taking a few deep breaths.

Light the Sage:

Hold the sage bundle or loose leaves at a slight angle. Use a lighter or match to ignite the tip. Let it burn for a few seconds until a steady flame forms. Gently blow out the flame, allowing the sage to smolder and produce smoke.

Waft the Smoke:

Direct the smoke using your hand, a feather, or simply let it spread naturally. Move the smoke around the area, yourself, or the object you want to cleanse.

Cleansing a Space:

Start at the entrance of the room and move clockwise around the space. Pay special attention to corners, doorways, and windows, as energy can become stagnant there. If you're cleansing multiple rooms, repeat the process in each one.

Cleansing Yourself:

Hold the sage near your body (but not too close) and gently waft the smoke from head to toe. Move the smoke around your body, front and back, as if you’re washing yourself in its energy.

Extinguish Safely:

Once you're done, extinguish the sage by pressing the burning end into the fireproof container or sand until the smoke stops. Avoid using water unless necessary, as it can make it harder to relight the sage in the future.
